Building the Security Operations Center for AI Infrastructure

Faraday’s take

AI infrastructure is critical infrastructure, and its threat surface is not one surface but four fused into one: enterprise IT, operational technology, physical access, and the supply chain. A security operations center built for a software company will watch the endpoints and miss the substation, the chiller, and the firmware in the transformer. Build the center around the asset, not the network. Instrument everything that can move a bit or a watt. Telemetry is the raw material, detection is the product, and the analyst is the machine that converts one into the other. If you cannot see it, you cannot defend it, and on an AI campus what you cannot see is usually the physical layer.

Knowledge check

Why is a conventional IT security operations center insufficient for defending AI infrastructure?

Show the answer

Because the threat surface of AI infrastructure spans four converged domains at once, an IT-only center is blind to the operational-technology, physical-access, and supply-chain layers where much of the real risk lives.
