The Map Ahead: How the Curriculum Builds From Here
This course is the on-ramp, not the destination. Everything you have learned is a coordinate system: four layers, four core concepts, three adversaries. The specialties ahead are deep dives into one region of that map, and they only make sense because you can already place them. Enterprise security, industrial-control defense, physical security, and supply-chain assurance are the four layers taken seriously one at a time. Threat intelligence, incident response, and governance run across all of them. Keep the whole surface in view as you go deep, because the specialist who forgets the map defends one face beautifully and loses the facility through a seam they stopped watching.
Knowledge check
How should a newcomer use the four-layer model and the three-adversary spectrum when they move on to a deep specialty such as industrial-control-system security?
Show the answer
Use them as a map that keeps the specialty in context. The four-layer model tells you which face of the surface the specialty covers and, crucially, where it touches the other three, so you keep watching the seams instead of only the interior of your layer. The three-adversary spectrum tells you which attackers realistically target that layer and by what path, so your deep controls are matched to real intent rather than built in the abstract. The specialty supplies depth; the foundational models supply the context that stops depth in one area from becoming blindness to the connections around it.
