The Gravitational Field: Why Hyperscaler Demand Sets the M&A Table

Faraday’s take

Hyperscaler demand is not one input among many. It is the center of mass. Every data-center transaction now orbits a handful of buyers whose multi-gigawatt appetite sets rents, land values, and the pace of consolidation. See this and the deal flow stops looking random: assets carrying a hyperscaler signature trade at bond-like multiples; assets without one trade as options on getting one. The metaphor is exact. Mass bends the space around it, and capital, land, and power now bend toward whoever can absorb the most compute. Your job is to read the field, not the individual trades. Once you know where the mass sits, the direction of every deal becomes predictable.

Knowledge check

Why does hyperscaler demand function as the 'center of mass' for data-center M&A rather than merely one demand source among several?

Show the answer

Because a small number of buyers command spending large enough to set market-clearing rents, land prices, and consolidation pace; their commitments reprice every surrounding asset, so deals orbit their decisions rather than the reverse.
