Reading Executive Moves and Targeted Hiring

Faraday’s take

Watch where the people go. An operator with a merger track record does not join a company by accident, and a board does not add a career dealmaker unless it intends to do deals. The richest tells are appointments into invented roles, departures that make no sense at market wages, and hiring waves aimed at a single function or city. Read individually, each is ambiguous. Read as a pattern — the right person, in the right seat, at the right moment, backed by a wall of aligned job postings — and the ambiguity collapses. Talent is the most honest forward indicator a company produces, because unlike a press release, a payroll cannot bluff for long.

What makes a wave of targeted job postings a stronger signal than a single executive hire?

Show the answer

A coordinated wave — many roles in the same function and geography opened in a short window — required deliberate planning and budget and is hard to explain innocently, whereas a single hire has many ordinary explanations; the coordination and specificity of the wave is what carries the information.
