The Next Rings: Nordics, APAC, LATAM, MENA, Africa
Once the European core saturates, the map opens outward, and each new region trades one constraint for another. The Nordics sell cheap clean power and cold air but sit far from the population centers that generate demand. APAC offers explosive growth but fragments into a dozen regulatory regimes and severe land scarcity in its richest hubs. LATAM and MENA and Africa sell cheap energy and young populations against grid fragility and political risk. There is no free market. A practitioner does not ask which region is best; that question has no answer. They ask which constraint their specific workload can most cheaply absorb, and then they price the others honestly. Geography is a portfolio of tradeoffs, not a ranking.
Knowledge check
Why is it a category error to ask which international data-center region is 'best' in the abstract?
Show the answer
Because every region trades one constraint for another (cheap power but distance from demand, high growth but regulatory fragmentation, low energy cost but grid or political risk), so suitability is defined relative to a specific workload's tolerances; there is no workload-independent ranking, only a best fit for a given latency, sustainability, and risk budget.
