Where the Wire Creates Scarcity Value: Building the Investment Thesis

Faraday’s take

Synthesis. Across three scales, subsea, metro, and intra-cluster, interconnect is where the AI buildout meets constraints the two-leg model misses. The investable question is always the same: where does a network constraint convert into durable scarcity value, and who captures it? My read: value accrues at the chokepoints that are physically hard to duplicate and strategically necessary, the neutral meeting points, the diverse routes, the leading-edge optics. Track those, price the diversity the market underprices, and you hold the thesis: network architecture is the under-tracked constraint on AI compute delivery.

Knowledge check

What common characteristic distinguishes the interconnect chokepoints that capture durable scarcity value from those that do not?

Show the answer

Durable scarcity value concentrates at chokepoints that are simultaneously hard to physically duplicate (through geography, permitting, capital intensity, or technical difficulty) and strategically necessary to the workloads that anchor the largest contracts; chokepoints that are easy to bypass or duplicate compete away their rents.
